So in a moment of madness we decided to see if we could get an iphone inside one of these new docks and low and behold...you can!
First open the cover:
Then remove the plastic insert:
With the plastic insert removed the iphone can now be plugged in:
Place the iPhone in the unit using the foam backing to push the unit forward:
And seal up: 
You retain all the functionality and it now swims :)...See the video's below for this unit in action ...
